The Veil, a sculpture by Giles Miller Studio within the reception of our 20 St James project from 2018 has just won in the ‘Commercial Interior Surface’ section of the Surface Design Awards.
Giles Miller Studio say the sculpture:
“…allows light in and enables occupants to see out, while protecting their privacy by blocking the view in from the double height reception below.
The ‘architectural artwork’ is the largest indoor installation that Giles Miller Studio has produced in the UK, and forms part of the studio’s ongoing experimental enquiry into how surfaces can define the spaces they inhabit.”
197 projects from 22 different countries were entered into this year’s Awards. The judging panel hand selected 48 finalists across the 13 categories. Each entry was judged on the particular use of materials, the type and finish of surface and the overall look and feel of the aesthetic design.
