A flagship branch of the international health club in Vienna’s corporate district.
Donaustadt is home to Vienna’s international community, a district of high profile corporate and governmental organisations centred around UNO City, one of the four official locations of the United Nations. The IZD Tower is a new hub for these global companies, and facilities such as the Holmes Place health club have been crucial in attracting top quality tenants. By starting its European operations here, Holmes Place hopes to attract members of the international community, encouraging brand recognition and establishing a foothold for further expansion. Orms therefore developed a brief and detailed ‘room book’ which defined the quality of the new club, advising the developer on what was needed to seal the turnkey deal.
The main part of the club occupies a street-facing annexe building. This is clad in distinctively coloured clear and opaque glass to give the club – and the commercial offices it serves – a strong public presence. The internal spaces are arranged vertically, with the main gym wrapping around the core of the tower. A restaurant and club room at ground level and a roof level pool with views across the city set a relaxed sense of style for the club.
