A luxurious health club at one of Europe’s busiest interchanges.
Potsdamer Platz is the original crossroads of Europe, and since its rebuilding post-Unification has once again become one of Berlin’s busiest commercial and retail centres. This health club and spa for Holmes Place represents a new chapter for an evolving brand, and provides a strong contrast to the bustling street life outside by setting out to offer members the experience of belonging to an exclusive private club. The design cleverly uses light and darkness to define the different areas within, reinforcing the traditional spa experience in which visitors move through a sequence of spaces and activities.
The club is based over three levels and, while the main circulation has been kept clear and straightforward, voids and links have been introduced to create interest throughout. At the entrance a restaurant and lounge provide a cosy contrast to the brighter reception space, which is surrounded by crushed white recycled glass. The ‘boulevard’ has a more outdoor feel with wood decking and exterior furniture, and is the heart of the club, from which the naturally-lit gym and dressing rooms are accessed. The tranquil spa area is darker and more intimate, with pool treatment and relaxation rooms.
