Planning consent has been secured for The Mark, a new 12 storey building in the heart of The City of London within a World Heritage Site. Orms has collaborated with 3XN on behalf of PBBE Mark Lane to deliver the vision for a new landmark building opposite the Tower of London.
This is a commercial development providing a 25,000sqm / 269,000sqft of premium office space supported by 3 ground floor retail units and a heritage and cultural learning centre. Large roof terraces, which offer both private and public access, will be amongst the amenities designed for wellbeing and biodiversity whilst opening up unique views across the historic fabric of London. The scheme has best-in-class sustainability aspirations, pushing the boundaries on circular economy and people-centric design.
The existing blank, black-glass façade will be replaced by brick faced precast concrete panels to better respond to local context. The single building will be created from 4 discrete blocks with parapets at different heights that respond to neighbouring buildings.
The positive reception of the scheme given the sensitivity of the design and historical context of the site is testament to the strong partnership fostered between Orms and 3XN.
